Robert Leonard Inducted 2020* - Assist. Principal
In 1981, it was Woodward’s great fortune when Bob Leonard joined the administrative staff as an Assistant Principal. He was energetic, dedicated, had a wonderful sense of humor and made a tremendous impact on the staff and students. Bob was selfless, supportive, had a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude, which enabled him to always see the good in people, especially the students. He had a knack for communicating with the students who really needed help. Bob not only did his own job, but was also helpful to others and always had a kind word. During his tenure at WHS he also served as Acting Principal. He credited colleagues, David Yenrick and the late Bryan Reamsnyder, for having a profound impact on him.
Woodward was a family affair for Bob, his wife Darlene and their daughters, Amanda and Jenifer. They attended numerous WHS events, always cheering for the Polar Bears.
Bob’s interest in promoting the school and supporting its alumni, led to the formation of the
Woodward Hall of Fame and the Polar Bear 200 fund raiser. As a Founding Father of both organizations, Woodward is grateful to Bob for his vision and forward thinking in helping to establish these organizations.
In 1993, Bob became Principal at Leverette Elementary School and then served as Assistant Principal at Waite High School until his retirement.
After retirement, Bob and Darlene divided their time between Toledo and North Carolina, where he volunteered for an organization that built homes for people in need.
Bob was a native of Alvada, Ohio and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bowling Green State University. He passed away in 2002 after a short illness.
